Dear Members:
Marin Audubon is saddened by the death of Dr. Bill Atchley on August 10. Dr. Bill served on Marin Baylands Advocate’s Board from the mid-1990's until several years ago, when his health began to seriously decline. Marin Bay-lands Advocates, for which Marin Audubon serves as fiduciary agent, has been a moving force in our habitat acquisitions and Bill was an important part of those efforts. Bill was liaison to the Marin Community Foundation, over-seeing the donor-advised fund which was established to accept donations to assist with the acquisition of baylands. Bill was a dedicated environmentalist, particularly for wetlands and baylands. His gracious manner, warmth, wisdom and vision were inspirations to all who knew him. The world has lost a very special person. We are grateful for his contribution and we will miss him.
Many members may have known Gay Frank, another important person in Marin Audubon’s history. Gay served on Marin Audubon’s Board about 15 years ago. We are sad to report she passed away earlier this year.
As we begin our new fiscal year, we are assessing our responsibilities and needs. As most of you already know, MAS is a volunteer organization. We depend on our volunteers for our accomplishments. With the extensive property we own, combined with our commitment to restore habitats on the properties, one of our most pressing needs is for one or more volunteers, who like to work outdoors, to help manage and maintain the vegetative habitats on our properties. Please see our Volunteer Opportunities page for additional vounteer opportunities and ways to help our environment.
