Great Egret

Size: 37-41 inches

This graceful bird is the symbol of the National Audubon Society. During the late 1800's their numbers decreased drastically because they were being killed, their feathers used to decorate women's hats. The Audubon Society formed to stop the killing and was successful. This egret eats fish, insects, small reptiles, small mammals, and birds.
