Snowy Egret

Size: 20-27 inches

This bird lives in marsh areas near freshwater lakes. It eats fish, small reptiles, rodents, and even crabs amd shrimp. This bird is smaller than the Great Egret. It has yellow feet.

Nest: Platform in tree, built by male and female. Male collects material, female builds nest. Nest in colonies, often with other species of egrets and herons.

In Marin: year round

About 100 years ago they were almost wiped out by plume hunters who sold their feathers for women’s hats.
